Best Bangles for Small Wrists: How to Measure and Find Your Size

If you have a small wrist, you already know the problem. You order a cute bangle, it shows up, and it slides right over your hand the second you put your arm down. Most bangles are cut for an "average" wrist, and if yours is 5.5 inches or under, average is just too big.

The good news is that measuring takes about two minutes, and once you know your number, picking the right size gets a lot less frustrating.

Why Most Bangles Don't Fit Petite Wrists

A classic closed bangle has to fit over the widest part of your hand to get on. That means its opening is sized for your knuckles, not your wrist. On a small wrist, that leaves a big gap, so it ends up sliding halfway up your forearm.

A cuff with a hinge works differently. Because it opens up, it doesn't have to squeeze over your hand at all, so it can be sized for the wrist itself. That's the whole reason our stacker cuff bangles come in a smaller starting size than you'll find at most stores. The hinged clasp opens fully, so there's no forcing it over your hand.

How to Measure Your Wrist at Home

You don't need a tape measure. A strip of paper and a ruler work fine.

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper, about half an inch wide.
  2. Wrap it around your wrist just below the wrist bone, where a bangle actually sits.
  3. Pull it snug but not tight, and mark where the paper overlaps.
  4. Lay the strip flat against a ruler and measure from the end to your mark.

Do it twice to make sure you get the same number. If you're measuring your dominant hand, it might be a touch bigger, so measure the wrist you plan to wear it on.

A few measuring mistakes to skip

Measuring over the wrist bone instead of just below it will give you a number that's too big. Pulling the paper really tight will give you one that's too small, and then the bangle will pinch. If you're unsure, measure in the evening. Wrists can be a little bigger at the end of the day, especially when it's hot out.

Bangle Size Chart for Small Wrists

Our stacker cuffs are sized by your wrist measurement, in four sizes: XS, S, M and L. Here's the full size ladder from our product pages:

Bangle size Your wrist
XS Up to 14 cm (5.5 in)
S 14–15.5 cm (5.5–6.1 in)
M 15.5–16.5 cm (6.1–6.5 in)
L 16.5–18 cm (6.5–7.1 in)

On the line between two? Smaller is the exact fit.

Want it looser? Go one size up.

So a 14 cm wrist is an XS and a 15.5 cm wrist is an S. A 5.25 inch wrist is an XS. A 5.75 inch wrist is an S.

Bracelets for a 5.5 inch wrist

If your wrist measures 5.5 inches (14 cm) or less, the XS is made for you. It's the size that's hardest to find at most stores, and it sits where a bangle should sit instead of sliding halfway to your elbow. The XS is an exact fit, so if you'd like it a little looser, go up to the S.

What if I'm between sizes?

Our bangles run small on purpose, since they're designed for petite wrists. Choose the size whose range includes your measured wrist. That gives you an exact fit. On the line between two? Smaller is the exact fit. Want it looser? Go one size up.

One thing to know: not every style comes in all four sizes. The Simple Stacker Cuff Bangle and the Thin Simple Stacker Cuff Bangle both go all the way down to XS, but some of the chunkier styles, like the Bold Simple Stacker Cuff Bangle, currently come in S and L only. Always check the size dropdown before you add to cart.

Picking Bangles That Look Right on a Small Wrist

Fit matters most, but proportion is a close second. A really wide cuff can swallow a tiny wrist, while thinner bands tend to look delicate and intentional.

Start thin, then add texture

The Thin Simple Stacker is 3mm wide and the Simple Stacker is 4mm, so either one is a safe first bangle. Once you have a plain one, adding a textured or ribbed band next to it gives the stack some interest without adding bulk. The Ribbed Stacker Cuff Bangle pairs really nicely with a smooth one.

How many to stack

On a small wrist, two or three thin bangles usually look balanced. You can go more if you love the stacked look, but more bangles in the same size will feel tighter together, so keep that in mind if you're on the edge of a size.

Can You Wear Them Every Day?

Yes, and that's kind of the point. Our stacker cuffs are 316L stainless steel with PVD gold plating, and they're made for water. You can keep them on for showering, the gym or the beach without taking them off first. A quick rinse and a dry with a soft cloth now and then keeps them looking their best, especially after sunscreen or perfume.

Most of our stackers are $18, so building a stack of two or three doesn't have to be a big spend. You can see every style in one place in the stacker bangle collection, or browse the rest of our bracelets if you want to mix in a chain or charm bracelet.

And if the size isn't right, we take returns for store credit within 14 days of delivery, as long as the piece is unworn.
